Writing Exam 2nd Partial

A.

Does your happiness depend on other people?

For me, happiness depends on both. You can make yourself happy, for example, doing things that you like, but you also need others to be completely happy, for example, friends and family.

B.

Does a person's happiness depend on other people or on oneself?

In my opinion happiness depends on both, from other people and from yourself. You can make yourself happy by doing things you like, but you also need others to share and to make you happy. For example people who spend time with friends and family are happier than people who don't. In addition people who share important moments of their life with others tend to be happier than those who don't. Furthermore friendly classmates or coworkers affect your own happiness, they help you reduce stress and also have a good time. I think we can make our-self's happy, but we also need from others to make us happy, only that way we can reach true happiness.

Researchers are concerned about the decline in bee colonies. Some blame hard winters. In a normal winter, the number of bees in a hive drops by more than 10 percent. However, in recent years, beekeepers have seen an annual fall of more than 30 percent in the number of bees in their hives. Some had losses of more than 50 percent, and some even lost almost 90 percent of their bees. Overall, the U.S. experienced a decline of more than 70% in its total bee population. However, this problem does not exist everywhere. In fact, globally, there has been an increase of over 45 percent in the number of hives, and honey production has also risen by over 100 percent in the last 50 years.

1. One of the happiest moment in my life was having dinner in Italy with my husband. We were on a little island on a lake, and we were eating outside at a restaurant. And there were these musicians who were playing music. The moment when we were watching the sunset was so romantic. I can't remember feeling happier.

2. I think the happiest day in my life was the day I was celebrating my 18th birthday playing volleyball on the beach. There were some other guys there who where playing a game, too, and we played against them. They were really good, winning felt really great. We've all stayed friends and getting together always reminds me of that day.

3. My earliest happy memory was winning the school spelling bee. I was feeling so proud when i stood there. Everyone in the audience was standing up and clapping. And i was seeing my parent's faces, it was the best moment. I was standing on the stage for ages and didn't want it all to end.

Exercise B

                                                 Skin
Don't smoke. Smoking makes your skin look older and contributes to wrinkles. Smoking narrows the tiny blood vessels in the outermost layers of skin, which decreases blood flow. This depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients that are important to skin health.

                                                Bones
Pay attention to vitamin D. Your body needs vitamin D to absorb calcium. Good sources of vitamin D include oily fish, such as tuna and sardines, egg yolks, and fortified milk. Sunlight also contributes to the body's production of vitamin D.

                                                Muscles
Protein. Muscles are mostly made up of proteins. It’s important to include protein in your diet to replenish what is lost during workouts. Proteins include meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, and milk products.

                                                Brain
Become a Social Butterfly. Staying close with friends and family and being involved in social activities and social situations can greatly contribute to a long life of strong cognitive health. Keeping your brain active through conversation can make an enormous difference as you age.

                                                Liver
Avoid alcohol. Even small quantities of alcohol if consumed regularly can burden your liver. The liver is responsible for detoxifying alcohol so having complete breaks regularly from alcoholic drinks helps your liver.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Exercise C

Circulation
The continuous movement of blood through the heart and blood vessels, maintained chiefly by the action of the heart.

Joints
A point of articulation between two or more bones, especially such a connection that allows motion.

Kidneys
Either of a pair of bean-shaped organs in the back part of the abdominal cavity that form and excrete urine, regulate fluid and electrolyte balance, and act as endocrine glands.

Lungs
Either of the two saclike respiratory organs in the thorax of humans and the higher vertebrates.

Sinuses

Writing Exam 1

Sometimes we don't spend enough time with our family, we think we don't need  them, or we simply think we can spend time later. A lesson to me was the importance of family. A few years later I always said I didn't need to spend so much time with my family and also that i didn't had time for them. At that time I was like  12 - 13 years old. Then when we last expected my mother got sick, and she needed to stay on the hospital, so I had to stay at home with only my brother. It was a unexpected experience, everything changed for both of us. After school we had to go home walking, cook for us something to eat, clean the house, and nobody to talk about our day. We lived like that for 2 month and half. After that experience i understand the importance of the family. I think is really important to spend time with them, even if it's only a little bit of time, maybe just to talk of our day. I think family we normally don't give them the time they need, but after that experience it changed me, and we have a better relation between all of us.

Page 43, Exercise 3 “The best advice”

Which advice in the article on page 42 is most relevant to you right now?
The most relevant advice for me is to evidence I can work well with others. I think is important to show that you can work with others without problems, it’s important in order to successfully finish a project.

What do you personally need to do to make sure you land your dream job?
Always look for work experience related to your job and it’s also important to show interest in moving ahead in your career.

What else do candidates need to do to stand out in today’s job market?
I think one of the most important thing candidates need right now is to always look to move ahead on the career, always look to improve, and explain the company how you can save them money.

Highlight

My name is Alfredo Calvillo, I'm 18 years old, and I'm from Mexicali.

I'm studying Mechatronics engineering in UVM. I think i don't have many important highlights in my life, but in this post i will talk about the ones i remember.

One of the highlights I'm choosing for this post is when i was young and my family gave me a dog. It was my first pet and quickly he became part of the family. Another highlight is when i finished high school, i think it was important for me because i had many problems trying to understand most of the subjects but in the end with a lot of hours studying i finished it with a good grade.

And last is when i learned a bit of programming and robotics, then i started to study a bit of programming on Internet and books. I signed up for a course that involved a bit of programming and robotics but using only Lego, it was fun and a good start, in the course i learned how to make a robot and program it to do a specific task like walk following a line, or separate some objects based on the color. At the end of the course i got some interest on programming and i looked for some courses on Internet and started to learn a bit on my own.

Last Rule and Tips

Rule 13: Comparative/superlative forms of words

Adjectives have inflections. That is, adjectives change in spelling according to how they are used in a sentence.

Adjectives have three forms: positive, comparative, and superlative.

The simplest form of the adjective is its positive form. When two objects or persons are being compared, the comparative form of the adjective is used. When three or more things are being compared, we use the adjective's superlative form.

Examples:

brave, braver, bravest

happy, happier, happiest

Note: Words of more than two syllables form the comparative with more and most:

beautiful, more beautiful, most beautiful.

resonant, more resonant, most resonate

Last few reminders
Don't split infinitives (incorrect: "to slowly walk" correct "to walk slowly"
Don't use slang (chirp) or clichés (cold as ice)
Either goes with or; neither goes with nor
When referring to a country, don't use "they"
Example: The US is the richest country in the world. They have the highest GNP. (It has the highest GNP.)

Should songs with violent lyrics should be banned?

In my opinion violent songs shouldn´t be banned.  I think songs are the instrument artists use to express how they feel, or to communicate any idea. Violents songs can lead to bad consequences, so i think they shouldn´t be banned neither promoted. I think the artists are free to write what they want on the songs, but if its too violent or promotes something incorrect, then they should do something. In case the song has something wrong i think they should leave it that way and ban it on radio, tv, etc. but leave it like that on the artist disc or webpage.

My major

My name is Alfredo Calvillo and I’m studying mechatronics engineering. I choose mechatronics because engineering was my first option, then when i started looking and i at all the fields of engineering i found mechatronics and I liked how it combines systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer engineering, it haves a lot of applications and it can help me getting a good job.

I think Mathematics are very important for my career because they are more than a simple tool, they are key for solving many problems, we use them a lot in physics, and also they help us understand how the computers works. Mathematics is used in every field of engineering and most important in our daily life.
